Some tree-mendous news

Sorry! Couldn’t resist the pun….the bgdra has received the notification below regarding trees in our neighbourhood:

RE: Notification of planned tree works on the following parks sites: Bounds Green Road Slips N22; The Drive N11; Tewkesbury Terrace N11

Further to my previous notification, planned works to trees on the above Parks sites is also due to commence in the near future. A large volume of trees have been identified that are in a poor condition and require either removal or crown reduction/pollarding works.

It is planned to remove 12 trees in total across all three sites and pollard 14 sugar maples Acer saccharum on Bounds Green Slips. These trees particularly have become hazardous due to previous works carried out in the distant past, which has caused them to develop significant internal decay. Reduction of these trees back to original reduction points (approx 5-6m) will initially appear drastic but is the best way to mitigate the risk to acceptable levels and prolong their useful lifespan effectively.

The Council has a commitment to replace all trees we remove.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding these works.

Kind regards,

Oliver Tong

The fight to save Pinkham Way is far from over!

Those of you who thought that Pinkham Way had been saved, need to read the documents being circulated by Haringey Council for the Wood Green Forum & Committee Meeting on Tuesday 29th January 2013. To save you the trouble we’ve extracted the incriminating paragraph below which was tucked away towards the back of the agenda:

An application to register the Pinkham Way site as a Village Green will have an informal public enquiry in Jan 2013, the final decision being made by Haringey Feb-March 2013 (Licensing Committee). A successful TVG application will lead to alternative waste site locations being required in the North London Area, failure of the application retains the site for consideration for waste management use. The Council expects a further planning application from the NLWA and Barnet Council after the TVG application decision (presuming failure of the TVG application.

The suggestion that a successful TVG (Village Green) application will lead to alternative waste sites being required in the North London area is entirely speculative and not really supported by the facts. It is true that a successful TVG application will mean that the Pinkham Way site is probably not available for waste management purposes or the relocation of Barnet’s Waste Truck Depot from Mill Hill.

It is interesting how our elected representatives view these things – there does not appear to be much support at Riverside House for ecology, the environment and the retention of nature conservation areas.  These words also seem to “presume” failure which doesn’t sound particularly fair.

Please come and join us to have your say about this and other things at the Wood Green Forum next week.  The details are:

Tuesday 29th January, Cypriot Centre, Earlham Grove, N22. Meeting starts at 18:30.

Helping Boris to fight crime….

The bgdra has received notification of a consultation process that you might be interested in.  As part of his role as Police and Crime Commissioner for London the Mayor has commenced a consultation with anyone who lives, works or travels in London to help him produce a Police and Crime Plan.

The is a meeting scheduled in each borough and the details for the one in Haringey is described below:

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE BELOW

Wednesday 20th February 2013, Monday 25th February 2013, 8pm, Council Chamber, Haringey Civic Centre, High Road, Wood Green, N22 8LE.

There will be several speakers and it is your chance to ask questions that could influence the plan whose aims are:

  • Improve crime prevention in neighbourhoods;
  • Hold the police to account for cutting crime and boosting public confidence, whilst giving Londoners better value for money;
  • Ensure other agencies work better to deliver effective justice, better service for victims and improved resettlement to cut re-offending.

Go along and have your say!

On the right track?

You may not be aware of the fact that the train operation franchise for our local stations and services is about to go out to tender.  The plan is to combine a number of current franchises in to one very large franchise over time.

Your local MP Lynne Featherstone is interested in gathering your views on this and has setup an online survey.

Alternatively you can read the full consultation document and respond directly via this link.

Or you can do both!  In Lynne’s own words

It’s really important that local people respond to the consultation on our local rail as there is a threat that Harringay and Hornsey stations could lose some of their services – but this is something I’m determined to make sure does not happen.

The Coalition Government is investing £6billion on the future of rail services affecting Bowes Park, Alexandra Palace, Harringay, Hornsey, and Finsbury Park rail stations. The Government are asking you for your views on how that money should be spent, so do make your voice heard.

The closing date for the full consultation is 23rd Aug 2012.

A planning application of interest

You might be interested to know that a planning application has been lodged for Forrester House on Bounds Green Road.

This is the large detached property quite close to Bounds Green tube on the north side and has been boarded up for many months.

The details of the application are available in this letter written to Cllr Joanna Christophidis.  You have until approximately 15th August to provide any observations, bgdra will be writing a letter.

Interested in how Haringey spends its money?

Cllr Joe Goldberg (Cabinet Member for Finance and Carbon Reduction) is hosting a public meeting to give local people a chance to have a say on the council’s budget.

It is taking place on Monday 9th January, 7-9pm at Wood Green Central Library, 187-197A High Road, London, N22 6XD.

If you can’t attend then there is meant to be an online questionnaire available at this link.
